My apologies for those of you not in the Bay Area, but I wanted to send a shoutout to let you know that Souley Vegan is finally opening up at 2nd and Broadway, near Jack London Square!

This restaurant has had a couple of locations in the past, and I think it's well worth it to swing by an show your support and get your collards on! I think they're a great local, independent and damn tasty business to help revitalize downtown Oakland.

It's also just a couple of blocks from my pad, hooray!

They're opening up on Friday, July 24th, plan to have live music every Friday night. Their normal hours of operation are Tuesday - Saturday 11am-9pm.

  • at the 13th st (or was it 14th st?) location:
the service was sooo bad, but the food was sooooooo good :)
I was forced to go back again and again despite their malaise.

hopefully some of the love they put into the food will seep out into the new staff !:)

all of that and now we know where to stalk jenni :P
    • I went there tonight and grabbed a flyer (they have their menu posted for folks to take) and someone who worked there came out and was super friendly. I think I've seen him around some of the food justice events in West Oakland.

I know their service sucked, but the BBQ twists... so good!

For all the vegan stalkers out there... I say bring it.
  • dude, it was AWESOME! They have a $19 "try everything" plate that's perfect for two people, and it was absolutely the right amount of food. Sometimes I'm temped to get three things because I want the variety, but it's always too much. Not too heavy or to weigh you down, and the staff was incredibly friendly and excited to be in their new location. If I worked nearby, I would probably go there at least three times a week for lunch!

The music they were playing was also good, and I can't wait to go back.

I'll have to try it. I must admit I haven't been to the Jack London Square area but two or three times in my life, even though I've lived in Berkeley and worked in Oakland for many years. I think where I work now is only 10 or 15 minutes from that area, so I should go check it out. I'd like to lend my support to a new vegan restaurant, and if I end of liking the experience I may go there often since it's near where I work, especially if they have take out. Is there anywhere to park at the restaurant, or do you have to pay to park?
      • Jack London Square is on the upswing; with a new marketplace that will be opening for business over behind Heinold's within the next 6 months or so. It's going to have food, shopping, and hopefully organic produce.

There should be street parking (although meters now go until 8pm), but you can always pay to park in the underground Jack London Square lot.

Souley Vegan does indeed do takeout.
