Re: crap I hate being the bearer of bad news
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 8:40 AMI was at a family reunion on the east coast this past weekend and as a way to deflect attention to all the attention I was paying to lables I was able to blow a bunch of the fam's minds by pointing out that "Non Dairy Creamer" actually has dairy products in it
it's a beautiful dream...but some day...just maybe there will be REAL truth in labling laws and the consumer will have the information and protection that we deserve

Fri, July 3, 2009 - 9:31 AMWow. Good to know. My favorites are okay, but California Vegan had both milk products and egg! Glad I never go there anymore.

Re: crap I hate being the bearer of bad news
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 12:48 PMThis does surprise me. Why would a restaurant establish themselves as a vegan restaurant if they want to cheat? I will probably be a little suspicious of vegan restaurants in northern California, too, now if I go to one. Hopefully most of them are what they say they are. It's always hard to tell what's in your food when going to restaurants. Nice study. -

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 6:10 PMbtw, i passed this story on to my friend at vegnews. with a little luck the story will get broadcast to a wider audience, and it will actually effect some change. if anyone else has some veg media friends pass it on to them.

Re: crap I hate being the bearer of bad news
Mon, July 6, 2009 - 9:34 PMFYI, if you really read the rest of the article, and some links, it looks like Taiwan (where most of the food is manufactured) is requiring new labeling laws as of July 1. In Taiwan, apparently egg is not generally an issue, so they don't always include it on the label. As they mention in the article, it should be getting better.
