Does anyone have any suggestions about keeping your grain products non-buggy? I had a really nice rice medley in a sealed jar in my cool, dark cabinet and when I went to use it, I found moth thingies and webbing inside. It made me sick! Please don't tell me I need to refrigerate all my grains....I don't have enough room in the frig for all my nuts, grains, produce, etc.

Okay, I won't tell you that <lol>. But it's what I do ; ). Do the jars you're using have rubber gasket seals? That helps. If you're buying it bulk, though, sometimes the bugs are already in there as the bins aren't sealed well. Maybe just rinse it REALLY well and the let it dry before storing? Sorry I can't offer a real solution...I really do keep all opened bags in the 'fridge.

i think the bugs were there when you bought the rice. i've bought kashi, and a few other things, then put them in air tight jars. after a month or two they were full of bugs. weevils i think. i don't know any way to get around them other than crossing your fingers, or buying non-organic.

I'm guessing that they were in the rice when you bought it; I recently had a bag a quinoa that I bought in a sealed, packaged bag, only to find it later full of the dead moths and webbing that weren't able to escape.

We keep all our bulk in sealed jars or canisters, and try not to let them sit for too long.

Here's a past thread on the subject that might be helpful:

The only certain way to keep your grains, flours, etc bug free is to keep them in the freezer. Sealed jars and canisters are good but not failproof, and unfortunately if you live in certain places you are more vulnerable to bugs, there's just no way around it.
