Of course it didn't take long before somebody brought up God and our God-given right to kill animals...oh and also the whole "as long as you respect the animal and "give thanks" to the animal for the sacrifice" bullshit.

so I'm actually pretty proud of my last post (pretty succinct for me too ;-)

(the post before me was referencing the passage in Genesis in which the exception to eat meat is laid out by God for Noah (and all of mankind) and the penalty explained)

Of course I have made my choice, but that is the point of my last post, whatever the choice that you make: either you make the choice that to kill is wrong, in which case you don't kill and have no reason to "give thanks" for the "sacrifice"

or you make the choice that the exception is justified and therefore there is no reason to "give thanks" for a "sacrifice" because it was not a sacrifice, it was a necessity.

When "spiritual" meat-eaters say that they "give thanks" to the animal for the "sacrifice" it is a non-sequitur.

Because if the animal is so unimportant and without value that she can be killed for food, then she is not deserving of thanks and has nothing to sacrifice.

And if the animal is deserving of thanks and can make a sacrifice that means that she has value (a soul) and basic rights, and then how can you justify killing her?

I agree that it is not for me to make the judgement. I can have an opinion though and so can you.

But at least be honest and consistent about it whatever choice you make:

A. You eat animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) = non-human animals have no value.

or

B. Non-human animals have value = You can not eat meat or enslave animals for their products. "
